Meet the Artist
Hi. My name is Kate.
I am an artist living with my family in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. While I have always been creative, I am not formally trained in watercolor. After obtaining my undergraduate degree from UNCG in History and Secondary Education, I taught high school Social Studies at South Central High School in Greenville, NC. My family and I moved to Winston-Salem, NC to be near family during Covid and I began to dabble in watercolor. I fell in love! Watercolor became a way to cope with all of the new and sometimes scary things that were happening. Being with water, allowing it move and run as it will, helped me to heal and taught me more about patience and grace. As I am not formally trained, my style is uniquely my own. My artwork reflects who I am as a person, my passions, my dreams and my sorrows. It allows me the freedom to be uniquely me.
As my creative self grew, it expanded to include paper craft. I love collage and finding new uses for used things. I also enjoy the structure of stationary design which allows me to combine watercolor and papercaft. I love the outlet textiles provide for creativity and how papercraft can cross multiple medias, themes, and designs. I am currently creating “junk” journals, or journals created from beautiful bits and bobs left over from our society’s infatuation consumerism; forever searching for a way to slow the death of everyday things. My journals are highly stylized, full of original pieces, and often take months to complete.
I am currently accepting commissions for 2025. Whether you’re looking to preserve a treasured memory or searching for a unique and personalized gift, my watercolor house portraits and illustrations are the perfect choice. I pride myself on creating house portraits that capture the heart and soul of each subject, allowing you to cherish your home and the moments you’ve shared within it for years to come. If you’re looking for something even more personal, I do accept a limited number of custom journal requests per year. These journals are highly personalized and can include childhood photos, meaningful quotations, excerpts, personal letters, or anything else your creative mind can dream up.
